Link placement rules from official platform help pages, with gaps marked as not stated; checked on 2026-11-01.

Where a link can go, and whether people can click it, differs by platform, so a campaign should not assume one rule for all. Profiles usually accept a website link, but the number and conditions vary. For captions and comments, several help pages say nothing, and on YouTube Shorts links in descriptions and comments are not clickable. This page summarises the official help pages checked on 2026-11-01 and marks every gap as not stated.

On LinkedIn, the older option to add hyperlinks to a profile through creator mode was removed, and the custom button is the supported route for the accounts that include it. Name each platform's link after the creator, so that results can be compared later, as our referral tracking guide explains.

Reddit and promotion rules

Reddit's help page does not say how many links a profile can hold. It does define spam as repeated or unsolicited behaviour, automatic or manual, that harms users, communities or Reddit itself, and lists posting duplicate content in volume for exposure or financial gain as an example. If your posts mostly link to a business you run, own or benefit from, the page advises caution or using Reddit's advertising tools. Communities can add their own rules, and moderators decide what counts as spam there, so read a community's rules before posting.

How ShareHub handles it

ShareHub (www.sharehub.fun) uses a link mapping that is still in pilot and development: each creator gets one short link that carries that creator's referral tag to the platform link, and clicks on the short link are recorded separately. One short link also gives a creator a single address to place in a profile or description. ShareHub does not process pledges and does not promise funding results. See our guide to creator marketing before a Kickstarter launch, learn how we find micro-creators, or read about ShareHub.

Common mistakes

Scope and limits

This page covers only what each platform's public help pages said on 2026-11-01. The TikTok help page could not be opened during our check, so TikTok is marked as not checked. Rules change often, so confirm on the linked pages before you rely on a detail. This is general information and not legal or compliance advice. More topics are in the guides index.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't viewers click the link in my YouTube Short?

YouTube's help page says URLs placed in Shorts descriptions and comments are not clickable, to reduce spam and scam attempts. Long-form video descriptions and comments can hold clickable links once the channel has access to advanced features.

How many links can I put on LinkedIn?

LinkedIn's help page says you can show up to three website links in the Contact info section of your profile. A separate help page describes a custom button that links to a website for certain paid and enterprise account holders.

What happens to links I post on X?

X's help page says every link is shortened with its t.co service and you cannot opt out. On x.com a link counts as 23 characters in your post, even when the original address is shorter.
